Taggart, 25, controversially left Perth Glory for the Roar in the off-season.

The striker believes he can take his game to the next level under the guidance of the former Socceroo centre forward, the same as Jamie Maclaren and Brandon Borrello have done previously.

"I wanted to work under John Aloisi," Taggart said.

"He has a great record of developing young players. Perth was obviously my home-town club and it was nice to play there, but I was keen to have another crack at breaking into the national team.

"My main goal throughout my career is to see how far I can go.

"I think this move is something that will help me develop and progress into the player I want to be.

"John's been a top striker in all of the big leagues in the world. For someone to have great understanding of all those leagues is only going to be good for any young striker.

"You've seen it before with players coming here and I guess I've lacked that in the last couple of years, having a solid coach who can really push a striker.

"To come here with a great medical stuff can only help me as I've struggled with a couple of niggling injuries in the last couple of years."

Taggart's departure from Glory in May drew a stinging public rebuke from his former club.

Asked what the 25-year-old thought of Perth's response, he replied: "Not much really. I did the right thing and let them know when I was leaving, like any professional athlete does.

"So the response is up to them. In the end they obviously came up to the truth, which is fine, but I'm always going to try and be as professional as I can in those situations. I made my decision to come to the Roar and that's that.

"The club's moving in the right direction and it's a great place to be at the moment. I'm really hungry and driven."

Taggart debuted for the national team in 2012, with his last Socceroos appearance coming at the 2014 World Cup.

The 2019 Asian Cup is in the back of his mind as the new A-League season approaches.

"I want to do the best I can to do get back to the national side," the former Fulham man said.

"I'm going to make the most of what I can here."
