Tanner joined Bolton on a free transfer from Blackburn Rovers in 2016. But the central midfielder's opportunities have been limited because of Bolton's transfer embargo.

The Trotters have been under a transfer embargo for more than a year by the Football League for failing to submit a Financial Fair Play return. Under the embargo the club, which has had ownership problems, is unable to sign new players.

Tanner said he needs to find first-team football.

"Unfortunately the embargo has stopped me playing first-team football and I need to be out there getting some first-team experience," the 19-year old told FourFourTwo.

"So at the end of this season I'll be looking to go elsehwere and push for first-team action as the embargo doesn't seem to be getting lifted anytime.

"Hopefully I can find that here in the UK, because I love playing here but if it means to go somewhere abroad again that can be an option too."

Tanner has made 24 appearances for Bolton's Under-23s, scoring two goals. He originally left Sydney to head to the UK to join Blackburn at the age of 14.

Now 19, the former Joey turns 20 next month. Tanner admits he would open to joining an A-League club.

"Everything is an option," he said.

"If it feels like the right place to go for my career then I would. I have been watching the A-League and it looks like it's improved a lot since I was last there."
