Both the Bonnyrigg White Eagles-Manly United FC (Saturday) and West Sydney Berries-Bankstown City (Sunday) matches were called off.

League leader Sydney United hit a 'double whammy' on Saturday evening in the match of the round against Marconi Stallions. The 2-1 defeat of the Stallions at Marconi Stadium handed the Reds a vital three-points to maintain their strong-hold of top-spot on the ladder, meanwhile securing the side the 2009 edition of the Capitol Hill Cup - an annual contest between the two clubs. The Stallions evening took a turn for the worst on 14' minutes as Vuko Tomasevic was shown a red card.

Sydney United made the most of the numerical advantage as Ante Milicic volleyed home on 22' minutes to give his side the lead. Marconi drew level after the break courtesy of a fine display of skill by Tim McGowan who majestically turned and flicked the ball into the top right hand corner of the net. Despite the brave display of the ten-man Stallions outfit, Sydney United sealed the three-points with an 88' minute goal courtesy of Damon Collina.

Sutherland Sharks returned to winning ways with a strong showing in the 3-0 win against Wollongong Community FC on Saturday. The Sharks were eager to bring to an end their horror-run of results, and Brad Boardman took the weight on his shoulders in a fine display by the burly striker. Boardman headed Sutherland ahead on 13' minutes before Neil Jablonski doubled the lead with a fine effort on 5' minutes later. Boardman put the result beyond doubt moments after the break; the Sharks administered proceedings in the closing stages to ensure a return to third-spot on the ladder.

On Sunday afternoon at Leichhardt Oval, Sydney Tigers left the playing surface for the umpteenth time this season without the three-points, despite dominating their opponent. Misfortune in-front of goal proved their undoing, as a courageous Blacktown City Demons fought to keep their brief chances of finals football alive despite finishing the match with nine-men - Kain Rastall, prior to the break, and Adam Kwasnik 15' minutes from the end.

Nick Rizzo put the Tigers into a seemingly unbeatable situation on 87' minutes via the penalty-spot though Demons defender Tyler Simpson scored arguably the goal of the season with an extraordinary overhead bicycle kick from the edge of the penalty-area. Tyler's powerful effort left goalkeeper Phillip Zabaks routed to the spot as the Demons players and small contingent of supporters rejoiced the marvellous result for Ken Schembri's men.

At Belmore Sports Ground, Sydney Olympic made a return to the winner's list though they too left it extremely late against a very gallant Penrith-Nepean United outfit.

Poor defensive clearances from set-pieces by Penrith-Nepean twice gave Sydney Olympic the lead - on both occasions Matthew Mayora the benefactor - as Ben Gough momentarily drew the visitors level prior to the break (1-1). Ian Gillan's men drew level (2-2) courtesy of a Michael Cindric own goal 20' minutes from time. With the match seemingly headed for a draw, in the 3' minute of injury-time, super sub Tolgay Ozbey powerfully headed his side to a long awaited win.
