The Reds benefited from Bankstown City and Marconi Stallions' slip-ups to extend their lead to 5-points in anticipation of the Sydney Olympic-Manly United FC match to be rescheduled.

Sydney United laid to rest fears that the side would struggle against 'lesser fancied' opposition as they put together a disciplined performance to secure a 2-0 win at West Sydney Berries. Davor Bajsic's opening goal in the 10' minute set the tone for a match dominated in its entirety by the Reds before Dominic Rossi doubled Sydney United's lead shortly after the break. The Berries best efforts came undone by defensive lapses, ultimately costing the side any chance of taking something from the match.

At Bonnyrigg Sports Club, the White Eagles and Blacktown City Demons fought out a scoreless draw in-front of almost 1,000 people. On the same day that Brian Brown was announced the new Bonnyrigg coach - Brown to commence his duties later this week - the side was eager to add points on the table to move away from the bottom of the ladder. Despite the home-side dominating most of the encounter, Blacktown City Demons dug deep to secure a point that positions the team just outside the Top-Four with the Easter weekend coming up. Both goalkeepers were kept busy, and perhaps the final result was credit to their fine saves; Ali Akbal for the White Eagles and Michael Herbet for the Demons.

Marconi Stallions strong start to the season has hit a wall as the Bossley Park outfit fell to their second consecutive loss of the campaign, this time against Sutherland Sharks. The Sharks took the match to the Stallions as boss Robbie Stanton returned to the club where he spent many years as a player.

Debutant Srecko Mitrovic and Nathan Ralph scored late in each half to ensure the Sharks a return to the Shire with maximum points. Sutherland's nervy start to the campaign appears to be old news as the side sits in fourth-spot on the ladder after Round 6 matches.

On Sunday afternoon, Sydney Tigers scored their second win of the season in their debut at new home ground, Leichhardt Oval. In new coach Luke McGuire's first match in-charge, the Tigers survived an enormous Bankstown City onslaught in the second-half to secure a 1-0 win. Franco Parisi, who was a huge doubt to start the match, scored an exquisite goal with a fine volleyed effort beating Bankstown shot-stopper Andrew Bazi at his near post. Bankstown City's frustrations were understandable as the Lions dominated the second-half with a monopoly on possession, and numerous goalscoring opportunities, all to no avail in the end.

At Penrith's CUA Stadium, Penrith-Nepean United continued their impressive start to the 2009 campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Wollongong Community FC.

A goal to Sean Mitchell in the closing stages of the first-half sealed the win for Penrith-Nepean, in a match dominated by Ian Gillan's men. Wollongong Community FC created some chances, though their own mistakes proved to be their undoing as coach Tony Pace confirmed at the end of the encounter.

The Sydney Olympic-Manly United FC encounter was postponed due to the extreme rain conditions in Sydney over the past week rendering the playing surface at Belmore Sports Ground 'unplayable'.
