Al Ahli were completely outplayed at Al Rashid Stadium as a hat-trick from Brazilian striker Leandro helped Al Sadd ease to victory and hand Al Ahli a second defeat in Asian Champions League Group D.

At the end of last month, Al Ahli let slip a 2-1 second half lead against Iran's Mes Kerman before losing 4-2 and today's result was yet another embarrassment for Dutch coach Ten Cate, who was handed the reins at the start of last month.

"I'm deeply ashamed of what has happened. I'm ashamed for Al Ahli Football Club and ashamed for myself. It was the worst day in my career," said 55-year-old Ten Cate, a former assistant boss at Chelsea and Barcelona.

"I'm a proud man, I hate losing. If I lose I must get the feeling that I did my utmost to avoid it. But if you lose without a battle it is pointless.

"What I saw tonight was not good. There was no fight, no battle. The players didn't fight for each other. They didn't stand for each other."

After working under Frank Rijkaard as Barcelona won the Champions League and Spanish title in 2006 Ten Cate joined Chelsea as assistant to Avram Grant in October 2007 following a spell with Ajax.

Ten Cate followed Grant out of the door at Stamford Bridge in May 2008 and joined Greek side Panathinaikos a month later before signing a short term deal with Al Ahli at the start of February.
