Goals from Nicolas Anelka, Michael Ballack and Ashley Cole kept Chelsea's 100% record intact and left Burnley tasting defeat for the second time this season.

Burnley had little answer to a rampant Chelsea but it could have been a different story had Martin Paterson not squandered a gilt-edged chance to put Owen Coyle's side ahead in the ninth minute.

"It's four wins from four which is important," Terry told ESPN.

"But the overall performance, the work-rate, working for each other all over the pitch shows we are desperate to win this Premier League.

"In the first half we had a lot of chances and maybe should have scored more. They made it difficult and overall I thought we were fantastic today."

Goalscorer Cole added: "When a lot of teams come here they seem to sit back but these came at us a bit today and I think it helped us.

"When we got the first goal it gave us a bit of confidence, they had to come out a bit more which created more chances for us.

"It's my third season here and for me it seems we're closer to being a family, the spirit is better than I've ever seen it here. We're hungry to win and hopefully this season can be our year."

Burnley boss Owen Coyle said: "I don't think you could argue, Chelsea were the better side and deservedly got the three points.

"I was a bit disappointed, I thought we competed well in the first half and there was a suspicion of offside with the goal.

"Then we lost two early goals in the second half but in the first half we competed well and had a couple of opportunities."

Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti was satisfied with his side's first half performance even if they did not score until the final minute.

He said: "We played very well in the first half.

"We were lucky to score in the last minute of the first half. Then the game was more easy.

"I am very proud to train this team because they have a lot of quality."

Ancelotti singled out midfielder Michael Essien for special praise.

He added: "All of the players did a very good job.

"In my personal opinion the best player in this match was Essien."
