The Socceroos will be intent on a strong victory against the War Elephants to give them the best chance of automatic World Cup qualification.

Australia is level on points with Saudi Arabia, who host Japan on Wednesday morning (3.30am AEST), but behind by two goals on goal difference.

The War Elephants have collected just two points in nine matches but wing-back Theerathon is hopeful of a surprise result given the situation.

"The Australians are bound to play an attacking game because they are anxious for a victory," Theerathon said.

"This should leave their defence vulnerable and counter-attacks can do the trick. We are determined to exploit whatever chances we get in this match."

Thailand lost 2-1 in Bangkok to Iraq on Thursday and can only finish last in Group B, giving them little to play for.

"The Aussies are under pressure for sure and we have nothing to lose because we are no longer in contention for a place in the finals," Theerathon said.

"We are determined to put on an impressive show after losing to Iraq 2-1 on Thursday.

"All the players were disappointed by the loss to Iraq because we did play well and had a lot of opportunities to score."

One of Thailand's two points so far came against the Socceroos, drawing 2-2 in Bangkok with Australia arguably lucky to escape with a point after a poor performance with a fortunate penalty call going their way for Mile Jedinak's 65th minute equaliser.

The War Elephants have since changed coaches, with Serbian boss Milovan Rajevac, who led Ghana against Australia at the 2010 World Cup, taking over.

"We know the Australians are under pressure because they've to win the match to qualify into the World Cup finals," Rajevac said.

"It could turn out to be an advantage for us. In any case, it should be a good experience for our team."
