Skipper Rafael van der Vaart gave the visitors the lead after just four minutes before John Heitinga doubled that advantage with a header four minutes from the interval.

Substitute Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink added a third in the 55th minute only for Thailand captain Tawan Sripan to pull one back with a superb free-kick 11 minutes later.

The victory over the Thais made it two wins out of two for Marco van Basten's side in their Asian double-header following a 2-0 victory over South Korea on Saturday.

Thailand coach Chanvit Pholchivin made two changes from the side that defeated China 1-0 in their last friendly back in May, with Therdsak Chaiman and Sutee Suksomkit unavailable due to club commitments in Singapore.

Vietnam-based Nirut Surasiang started in place of Singapore Armed Forces midfield star Therdsak while striker Sarayoot Chaikamdee, a team-mate of Nirut's at Binh Dinh, came in for Sutee to partner in-form Pipat Thonkanya, scorer of the goal that gave the three-time ASEAN champions the first win over the Chinese in 17 years.

Meanwhile, the Thais were boosted by the return of talismanic forward Kiatisuk 'Zico' Senamuang, who started the game on the bench after injury had ruled him out of the game against China.

Thailand's hopes of another morale-boosting win took an early blow when Van der Vaart followed up his two goals against the Koreans with the opener after just four minutes.

Nirut should have put the Thais level six minutes later, but scuffed his shot from inside the six-yard box, while Pipat was denied his fourth goal in as many matches when he drew a fine save from Henk Timmer after being set-up by an excellent pass from Jakkrit Bunkham.

And the Thais paid for their profligacy with four minutes of the first-half left when an unmarked Heitinga headed home a corner from Wesley Sneijder.

With a healthy lead established, Van Basten made a double substitution replacing defender Mario Melchiot and Andwele Slory with Vennegoor of Hesselink and Kew Jaliens, respectively.

And it proved to be an inspired switch as Vennegoor, fresh from his league and cup triumph with Scottish Premier League giants Celtic, slammed home Sneijder's unselfish cutback after just 10 minutes on the pitch.

At 3-0 down the Thais looked dead and buried, but in the 66th minute Tawan gave the home side a glimmer of hope when the BEC Tero Sasana midfielder curled an exquisitely struck free-kick that flew past a static Timmer.

However, the goal failed to spark a revival for the Thais and the Dutch remained firmly in control for the remainder of the match without ever really getting into second gear.
