To see Sydney FC in training...

Football megastar David Beckham arrived in Sydney this morning for LA Galaxy's exhibition game against Sydney FC on Tuesday night.

The world's most famous footballer will get a look at his opponents tonight, when Beckham and the Galaxy squad are introduced to fans at Sydney FC's A-League match against Queensland Roar at Sydney Football Stadium.

The former England captain will have a busy few days in the harbour city as he mixes sponsor obligations and red-carpet functions with training for the exhibition match.

But at a press conference today, he refused to be drawn on who he would like to see succeed Steve McClaren as England manager but insisted it still remains one of the most coveted jobs in world football.

Wednesday's 3-2 defeat to Croatia at Wembley ensured England will not be participating in next summer's European Championships in Austria and Switzerland and also spelt the end of McClaren's brief tenure in charge of the national side.

Former Real Madrid boss Fabio Capello has emerged as the highest-profile candidate so far to express an interest in filling the position while others such as Martin O'Neill and Arsene Wenger have ruled themselves out the running.

But Beckham, whose pinpoint cross allowed Peter Crouch to net England's equaliser against the Croatians, is confident the role will attract a host of quality candidates despite the pressurised nature of the task.

"There's many managers out there who obviously will want the job," said Beckham.

"It might be a tough job, it might be a high pressure job to manage England, but any manager in football would love to manage our country and our players.

"Luckily enough I'm not in a position where I have to choose and pick the manager for our country because I think it's going to be a very tough decision.

"It's going to be a tough decision for whoever's going to make it at the FA but I'm not going to sit up here and name names because there are so many thrown in already.

"We'll just have to wait and see."

The midfielder has seen his debut season with the Galaxy disrupted by both ankle and knee injuries but the 32-year-old insisted he is almost back to full fitness.

"Physically I'm good," said Beckham.

"I'm a lot better than I have been since I've joined the Galaxy. It's been very frustrating to not be on the field and playing.

"Now I'm back to almost fully fit. I played half the game the other night at Wembley and however disappointing it was, it was nice to be out there playing.

"I'm looking forward to the game on Tuesday. Physically I feel great and mentally I'm always good - I think."

Beckham is keen to play a full part against Sydney FC despite reports he is only required to play a minimum of 55 minutes.

"It's the first I've heard of it (not playing a full game)," Beckham said.

"I will be happy to play more than the 55 minutes. The whole game if possible.

"Our season's over and we've got no more England games until February, so I want to play in every game.

"I want to play as much as the game on Tuesday as possible but obviously that's down to the manager."

The former England skipper also pointed to former Middlesbrough star Juninho, who will line-up against the Galaxy for Sydney, as typifying his own attitude to playing football.

"It's great when you hear a player like Juninho just saying how much he loves football and he'll play football whenever he's asked to," added Beckham.

"That's the attitude you want in players."
