ENGLISH Premier League club Everton have snubbed a move for Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Michael Theoklitos in favour of a local solution.
An agent was trying to broker a $500,000-plus deal to take last year's A-League Goalkeeper of the Year to the UK as Everton's back-up to Tim Howard.
Rumours of a switch on the final day of the transfer window grew throughout the day with supporters both in Australia and England discussing the possibility of a transfer.
Theoklitos was unavailable for comment yesterday which did little to dampen the speculation surrounding his future.
A club spokesman would merely confirm that no formal talks about the player had taken place between the two clubs, fuelling further speculation of a possible deal.
However, overnight Everton recruited veteran Wigan sticksman Carlo Nash for the back-up role at the club instead, ending any hope of Theoklitos joining the Liverpool-based side.
