A STRONG second-half recovery and the first goal in a Schalke shirt for Raul have lifted the gloom a little around the Gelsenkirchen club.
Felix Magath's side trailed 2-0 at home to Borussia Monchengladbach at half-time, but both Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Raul struck in the second half to earn a point.
"If we play like we did today against Benfica (in the Champions League on Wednesday), I am confident we will be able to win," Huntelaar told the club's website.
"I think we have made an improvement on the previous games.
"Of course it would have been even better had we won and it was great for Raul to score his first Bundesliga goal for Schalke as that will give him self-confidence for the coming tasks.
"And I was delighted with my first goal in the Arena AufSchalke."
Raul said he had been "craving" his first goal and added: "I am happy and proud to have been able to help my team with a goal.
"We actually would have deserved to win after the second half, but we must build on this."
The draw was a huge psychological boost to opponents Monchengladbach, whose coach Michael Frontzeck praised his side's attitude.
"Anybody who has played football knows how hard it is to play another tough away game after losing 7-0 away from home," he said.
"For us not to go on to win the game after leading 2-0 is down to the individual class Schalke have.
"You cannot mark Raul and Klaas Jan Huntelaar out of the game for 90 minutes."
The draw left both clubs inside the bottom three after six games of the season, although the point did lift Schalke off the foot of the table.
