Thomson will line up against Zenit St Petersburg tonight if there is no further reaction to the foot injury he suffered during Saturday's 3-1 win over Dundee United.

After training for the first time since that game at the City of Manchester Stadium last night, Thomson told the Daily Record: "My foot is feeling a lot better than it did at the weekend.

"The biggest fear was as soon as I started running on it, the pain would return, but so far so good.

"You don't get many chances in your career to play in a match like this and wild horses won't hold me back now.

"It would mean everything to this club and to this group of players if we win and create a little bit of history.

"I'm desperate to play my part in it."
