McKay, Michael Zullo and Craig Moore have all been named as part of a 22-man squad to kick off Australia’s Asian Cup qualification campaign in Jakarta next Wednesday.

McKay said: “We’re all playing well and if we can continue to do that there’ll be more players in the squad in the future."

The 25-year-old already has one cap for his country but it wasn't a lengthy experience to earn it.

The midfielder was hoping to add to the three minutes he gained against Kuwait in August 2006 but until now, has not had the opportunity.

He said: “That’s up there with one of the highlights. Even though it was three minutes it’s a Socceroos cap and very prestigious.

“I didn’t know if I was going to get another chance so I’ll make the most of it now and really enjoy it.”

For Zullo the call-up is also a second chance.

The left winger was called up by Verbeek in March last year, but was unable to travel after suffering a late injury.

He said: “It came straight out of left field so definitely it’s a big honour and hopefully I can do well.

“If I get on the field it’ll be a big moment for me but I’m just trying to take it as a good experience.”

The call-up caps a big season for the former Brisbane City star, who was forced to push hard to regain a spot in the first XI of Frank Farina’s squad at the start of the season.

The 20-year-old said: “Last year was my breakthrough year and this year’s been about maintaining it.

“It started off difficult but the last month and a half to two months it’s kind of looked up and I’ve just got to push on now until the end of the season.”

Unlike McKay and Zullo, Moore was virtually guaranteed a call-up and is the most experienced member of the squad with 40 caps.

At 33, the commanding centre back said he had no concerns about the extra workload of international duty.

“Even last week, I know we played the three games but I’ve come through everything feeling extremely good,” he said.
