Abuse directed toward the assistant referee during the round 10 clash with Sunshine George Cross has seen last year's minor premiers given a hefty punishment by Football Federation Victoria.

The misconduct charge was a second serious offence against a match official with fans allegedly intimidating, threatening or making inappropriate gestures.

Despite the club pleading not guilty, the FFV tribunal found otherwise.

With the three-point deduction came a four thousand dollar fine and the club's next two home games will be played behind closed doors.

It sends the Thunder below its opponent this week, the Melbourne Knights, and into 10th spot on the table.

Dandenong return to the scene of the crime, Knights Stadium, and will be desperate to regain the lost three points on Sunday.

The point deduction comes after Hume City, Melbourne Knights and Heidelberg United lost three points prior to the season beginning for not obeying competition rules and South Melbourne was handed a six-point penalty for the abandonment of its round six clash with the Bergers.
