GOALSCORER Craig Fagan believes Hull proved against West Brom they have the qualities needed to survive in the Barclays Premier League.
Hull finally arrested a run of six successive defeats as they fought out a 2-2 draw with the Baggies at the KC Stadium yesterday.
It was a significant improvement on the performance in the 2-0 defeat against West Ham in midweek but after twice leading it could be considered a missed opportunity.
Hull are still just six points above the bottom and have slipped into the lower half of the table but Fagan insists his team-mates are not looking over their shoulders.
Fagan said: "It was definitely a point gained and I think the manager will be really pleased with the performance.
"I think the lads can take a lot of confidence from it and go into the next game believing.
"Now we are off the 27-point mark we have to go down and try to get something at Chelsea.
"There are lots of games left in the league and we have gone to Arsenal and Liverpool and taken good points. Who's to say we can't go to Chelsea and get three points?
"The workrate from everyone was tremendous from the start of the game and if we carry that on, I can't see it being a problem, staying in the league."
Hull were the better side for most of an engaging contest and took a deserved lead on the stroke of half-time when Bernard Mendy outpaced Paul Robinson and coolly finished.
West Brom hit back through on-loan Arsenal youngster Jay Simpson but Hull looked to be on the way to victory when Fagan headed in the excellent Bernard Mendy's pinpoint 69th-minute cross.
But again their advantage was short-lived as Kamil Zayatte felled Robert Koren and Chris Brunt secured a point from the penalty spot.
Fagan lined up alongside Richard Garcia in a surprise attacking combination while Brazilian star Geovanni and on-loan striker Manucho were left on the bench.
The 26-year-old was pleased with how his partnership with the Australian worked and felt it reminded him of their time together at Colchester.
Fagan, who missed three months of the current season with a broken leg, said: "We worked on it during the week.
"I have played with Richard before at Colchester. It wasn't something new and we just linked up like in the old days. I enjoyed it.
"And being a Birmingham lad, I know a lot of my Blues family will be happy with me scoring against the Baggies.
"I'm delighted with that but disappointed we didn't get the win."
Tigers manager Phil Brown added: "The plus from the game is that we have got off 27 points, that was becoming a monkey on our back. Onwards and upwards, as they say."
Brown will now turn his immediate attentions to securing late recruits before tomorrow's transfer deadline.
Manager Phil Brown has said he would like to bring in another striker and a defender and the club have been linked with a number of names as a result.
The latest of them, intriguingly, is that of striker Fraizer Campbell, despite the player currently being on loan at Tottenham and having also played for Manchester United this season.
Campbell scored 15 goals for Hull during their promotion campaign last year while on loan from United but he would need FIFA clearance to play for a third club in the current season.
Liverpool similarly applied for dispensation to sign Javier Mascherano two years ago and succeeded.
Hull will also hope for a positive update on the fitness of record signing Jimmy Bullard.
The £5million arrival from Fulham missed the visit of the Baggies after suffering discomfort in his knee on his debut against West Ham.
Bullard spent 15 months on the sidelines after injuring the same knee in September 2006 but Brown was not overly concerned.
Brown said: It frightened everybody because it is the same knee as the old injury but fortunately it is a fresh injury - if there is such thing as fortunately where injuries are concerned."
