EPL WRAP: Aussie Richard Garcia helped Hull fight a desperate rearguard as they held on for a famous win over Arsenal but it was another story for Tim Cahill.
Cahill had an altogether different day, receiving two yellow cards in Everton's derby loss to Liverpool.
All eyes however, were on the match coming from the Emirates Stadium, as Hull came from behind to record a 2-1 victory over Arsenal in a cracking encounter.
Following an even first half, the game went to new heights after the re-start with Tiger Paul McShane getting the last touch on the ball as Gunners striker Emmanuel Adebayor bundled it home for Arsenal's opener in the 50th minute.
But the hosts had already been warned when Geovanni had a volleyed effort disallowed and the Brazilian made no mistake just before the hour as he evaded a challenge on the left wing before drifting inside and burying a spectacular right-footed shot into Manuel Almunia's top left-hand corner.
Four minutes later, and the minnows had the temerity to take the lead as Daniel Cousin rose high to nod in a cross from Andy Dawson.
Garcia came on in the 77th minute for George Boateng and was just in time to help the Tigers fight a desperate defensive battle as Arsenal threw everything at Phil Brown's men in the final stages.
The Gunners went into the round on top of the Premiership standings, but have now slipped to fourth after Chelsea (first), Liverpool (second) and Aston Villa (third) all recorded wins on Saturday.
Hull meanwhile has climbed to sixth, recording as many points in six games as Derby did for the entire season last year. Incredibly, the newly promoted outfit could even have been sitting in fourth on Saturday night had it not conceded two late goals to Everton last weekend.
The Toffees (12th) poor start to the new campaign hit another roadblock in Saturday's early game, as Fernando Torres scored twice in a 2-0 loss to bitter derby rival Liverpool.
Torres may have been struggling for goals since helping Spain to its Euro 2008 triumph but he popped up with two in three minutes during the second half before Socceroos' forward Cahill was sent for an early shower when he received a second caution late in the game.
Chelsea meanwhile faced a fired-up Stoke (18th) but still had the class to record a 2-0 victory with goals coming from Jose Bosingwa and Nicolas Anelka.
Third-placed Aston Villa continues to go from strength to strength as it came from behind to record a 2-1 win over Sunderland (11th) at Villa Park.
Djibril Cisse had given the Black Cats a nine-minute lead but former Watford front man Ashley Young soon produced the goods for Villa, burying a 20-metre free kick to level scores before playing a part in the build-up to the second goal as John Carew flicked in Stiliyan Petrov's pass.
West Ham has climbed into fifth as new manager Gianfranco Zola's good start to his Premiership career continued through a 2-1 win over Fulham (13th).
The Cottagers dominated the first half and were unfortunate not to put several goals on the board before a disastrous three-minute spell just before the break where they conceded twice and saw Andy Johnson dismissed.
After being arrested on suspicion of drink driving during the week, Carlton Cole received some good fortune in the 43rd minute when Fulham and Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer spilled the ball, allowing Cole to prod it home.
Two minutes later, Matthew Etherington doubled the advantage before Johnson was dismissed for a second yellow card, with Danny Murphy pulling one back for Fulham from the spot during the second half.
Christopher Samba and Roque Santa Cruz scored the goals as Blackburn (seventh) proved too good for beleaguered Newcastle (19th) in a 1-0 result.
Australian midfielder Brett Emerton supplied a superb cross for Santa Cruz to fire in the second goal before Michael Owen pulled one back from the spot as the Magpies began to threaten after the break, showing new interim manager Joe Kinnear there may still be a heart beating at St James Park.
And finally, Manchester United's (ninth) climb up the table has started gathering pace through a controversial 2-0 win over Bolton (17th) at Old Trafford.
Bolton had managed to defy the Devils until just on the hour when Cristiano Ronaldo won a dubious penalty despite Jlloyd Samuels' tackle appearing to be a fair one.
Ronaldo, in his first start for the season, coolly converted the spot kick and United consolidated the win when second-half substitute Wayne Rooney fired home in the 77th minute.
