Tim Cahill is certainly the man of the moment in Australian sport. The Socceroos legend covered himself in glory throughout the recent Asian Cup, but now he sets off on a new adventure as he chases Chinese Super League success with his new club Shanghai Shenhua.

Inside Sport’s Adam Jackson rocked up to New Balance’s announcement that the brand will be tackling the opposition head-on in the soccer/football gear market. He bumped into Cahill at the Melbourne gig, one of many held around the globe to signify NB’s imprint on the world game (see video below). The pair chatted about China, the Socceroos’ recent triumph and that man Ange …

Adam Jackson: First of all, congrats on the recent announcement concerning the latest stage of your career. What is the timeline for your move over to China?

Tim Cahill: "I'm sorting that out in the next few days. I'll be in New York launching New Balance next. My move to China will be fine-tuned once I have got my schedule [from the club]."

It's a big move going to play your football in China. Who did you speak to or get advice from before reaching your decision?

"I think for me … I know a lot about China. I had a lot of information given to me by the club and by the people I have around me who have helped sort out the move there. But overall, it was more about knowing Asian football and understanding the league; the players that are in the team. I spoke to the coach and the assistant coach, and the staff there are very professional. For me now, it's more about going over and making an impact on Chinese football."

Does it worry you that some players have gone to China from top European leagues, and from around the world, and not managed to settle or make an impact?

"Yeah, but I’m not like other players, you know? For me, I am 35 years old and have played at the highest level. I’m going there to do well and enjoy my football. And at the end of the day, I am coming off some good form from the Asian Cup. It is a massive club with big intentions to do well this season. But I don't really look at other players and what they have done or achieved. I just focus on myself."

So with this move, do you still have aspirations of playing in the World Cup in 2018?

"I have spoken with Ange and both of us know our plans for what our future holds. We will see what will come of that and will see at the next [Socceroos] camp whether things will continue as they are. It all depends on my form and my fitness, but now I am just looking forward to enjoying the Asian Cup win and a bit of time off before I head off to China."
