Toivonen arrived in Melbourne last month and looked likely to replace Besart Berisha up front after his departure last season.

Victory coup Keisuke Honda said yesterday he was "worried" about the condition of Toivonen, conceding he needed more time.

Muscat said he was considering starting Toivonen on the bench, which would provide Kenny Athiu a chance to start up front.

"Ola has trained since he got here, he hasn't missed a session," Muscat said.

"Today was the first session he missed, so we'll wait and see until the morning to reassess him.

"He's just pulled up a bit sore, this time of the year players pull up sore. He wants to play, but we'll make that decision tomorrow."

Toivonen came from French outfit Toulouse and recently scored at the World Cup in Russia.

The Victory boss said his current condition was expected.

"What we've got to understand is after the World Cup, Ola had some time off and he was at a club where he wasn't training with the team," he said.

"He started later than the rest of the group, so it's normal he's not at the same level as the other guys, most of them going for three months now."

Muscat said he was unsure who he would start at right-back as Tommy Deng returned from a stellar Socceroos debut agaisnt Kuwait.

He also has new man Storm Roux as an option.

"Tom is in contention," he said.

"Whilst he's been away, it's a wonderful story coming across to Australia as refugees and calling Australia home. Getting the opportunity to represent the country was enormous for him and his family. We're all proud of him.

"While Tom has been away and has done well for himself, Storm has been here working with the group. It's a decision I'll make tomorrow. It'll ultimately come down to what's best for the team.
