With just a handful of caps to his name despite impressive performances in the Dutch Eredivisie league, Oar was a key part of the injection of fresh blood into the ageing Socceroos side.

The Next Gen Roos shone when finally given the chance to impress by coach Holger Osieck, with Tom Rogic, Eli Babalj and Nikita Rukavytsya looking relaxed with the move to international level.

Robbie Cornthwaite - who scored the winner for Australia after being caught ball-watching at the other end for Korea's goal - also made the most of his last minute call up to the side.

Aziz Behich brought his domestic form with him from Melbourne Heart and was a livewire at leftback when he finally replaced Michael Thwaite who also coped well despite being used out of position all night at fullback and defensive midfield.

And James Holland had one of his best performances in green and gold in midfield, successfully pushing play forward, especially in the second half.

After the match, Oar was critical of his own game but delighted by the result.

"It was obviously a very pleasing result for us especially under the circumstances - a lot of travel and we only had very short preparation," he said.

"I was obviously happy with my part in the goals. I gave the ball away cheaply on a couple of occasions. I guess as we play together more often, we can fix those kinds of things.

"It was my first time meeting a couple of the boys and I've played with a lot of them in the youth teams. It's always nice to meet up with the boys.

"I thought they all did quite well actually. James Holland I thought was fantastic today. I thought Tommy Rogic when he came on as well was very strong.

"I hadn't seen too much of him before so I was very impressed with him. There were a number of boys who did very well.

"Hopefully he can keep it goig the way he's going now. All in all I'm pretty happy."

Oar paid tribute to the defeated Koreans who also fielded an experimental side, drawn mainly from the K.League - and suffered their first loss to Australia in Korea for 40 years.

He added: "They're always a difficult opponent. They're technically very good and fit and mobile.

"It was physically very tough for us but I thought we defended quite well."
