Pignata joins Sydney FC with a wealth of knowledge of the Hyundai A-League and grassroots football, having previously held the positions of CEO of Wellington Phoenix and CEO of Football Federation Victoria.
The 47-year-old also has a strong business background, having worked in the Investment Banking Industry for 20 years after graduating from Monash University with a degree in Banking and Finance.
“On behalf of the Board I’d like to congratulate Tony on his appointment and welcome him to Sydney FC,” said Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow.
“Tony has a proven track record of successfully managing an A-League club and a State Federation as well as a wealth of commercial acumen gained from his background in the Banking and Finance industry.”
Pignata said" “I am thrilled to be appointed as CEO of Sydney FC.
“Sydney FC is one of the flagships of the A-League and it will be a privilege to work at such a strong club at what is a very exciting time in the evolution of the competition.
“It’s great to be back in football, which is my passion, and I look forward to working with the Board, staff, players and fans at Sydney FC.”
The appointment follows the controversial axeing of previous CEO after staff complained about his behaviour and management style.
Pignata is the latest in a long line of CEOs at Sydney which has been in constant change since it was founded at the launch of the A-League.
In just seven seasons, Pignata will be the club's seventh CEO, and joins Scott Barlow, the club's fifth chairman, and Ian Crook, the club's newly appointed sixth coach.
