It took several weeks but Torino finally won a game in 2009 yesterday when they scraped a 1-0 triumph over Udinese to climb out of the relegation zone - much to the relief of coach Walter Novellino.
Toro had drawn their previous five matches.
"When you climb a mountain, you cannot do it in a hurry," said Novellino.
"But our hard work has paid off and, finally, we have left the relegation zone behind us."
The Granata are still only 17th in the Serie A standings, one point clear of the drop zone.
They travel to Sardinia to meet Cagliari next weekend.
"We need to give continuity to our results," said Novellino.
"We must now try to extend our one-point gap over the teams in the relegation zone.
"It will not be easy."
