Big things are expected of the 23-year-old after he bagged 33 goals in his first season in England despite the fact that the former Atletico Madrid man has found the net only once in the past year for the national side.

But Torres insists that Spain will only achieve success by playing as a team.

"I hope that this is Spain's European championships, and not just the tournament for one certain player," he told Spanish newspaper AS.

"We all have to bring our own thing, all attack and all defend because if we do things that way we can achieve the goals we want to achieve for Spain."

The Liverpool number nine also added that he would have to adapt to the Spanish system if his side are to enjoy success in Austria and Switzerland, and that he did not expect his team-mates to change their style to suit him.

He said: "It's true our football is different from the Premier League, more vertical and long passes, but those of us who are joining up with squad from abroad have to adapt to the football of the national team, which is also of a high quality.

"In my case it's obvious that it's me who has to adapt to Spain's style and not the other way around.

"If this team is together and works as a group we can achieve big things."

Spain begin their Euro 2008 campaign against Russia on June 10 in Innsbruck before meeting Sweden on June 14 and title-holders Greece on June 18 in Group D.
