The Spaniard's future was in doubt ahead of the meeting, with the striker unhappy at his treatment at the London club, but he is now likely to lead the Blues' attack next season.

"I've already had a conversation with Chelsea's board. I only needed to know that they have the same trust in me that they had at the beginning," Torres said on Monday.

"It has been a difficult year. I needed to know if they still expect from me what they did when they signed me.

"They trust in me and that's just what I needed to keep on fighting in order to become an essential player for the team."

Torres formed an important part of Chelsea's Champions League-winning team, impressing at Camp Nou against Barcelona by scoring in injury time to seal a 3-2 aggregate semi-final win.

He has struggled to play a regular part in the side, however, due to the form of Didier Drogba, who recently announced he would be leaving the club this summer.

After admitting that he had been through 'some of the worst moments' of his career last season, Torres will be now focused on the upcoming Euro 2012, having been included in the Spanish squad.

The 28-year-old said Spain were adapting to the pressure of heading into Euro 2012 as defending champions.

"I think that the pressure we have now is different to the one we had in 2008 and 2010," Torres said.

"We arrived at Euro 2008 with a great team but we still had to win something. The pressure was different.

"The question was whether we could go further than the quarter-finals. Two weeks before that tournament we had many critics for the way we were playing.

"A month later we lifted the trophy and everything changed. We are both European and world champions and if we don't win they will consider it as a failure. Everything has changed a lot since 2008."
