Last Sunday's 3-0 reverse in Tuscany - Roma's first away loss of the season - allowed unbeaten Inter to regain their eight-point cushion at the summit.

Despite that, Totti insists his second-placed side still have what it takes to win the Scudetto.

He said: "If up to last Sunday we were a model team in terms of our play, we cannot be considered now a finished team.

"We did not expect the defeat at Siena. All of us made a mistake in the approach to the game and we cannot hide our responsibility. But we cannot throw away all the good things we have done so far this season."

The slip at Siena marked only the second league game this campaign where Roma failed to find the back of the net. The Giallorossi still have the third best striking force in the competition behind Inter and Juventus.

With 17 games left to play, Totti is confident his team can still catch Inter.

He said: "We believe it's possible. We owe it to our fans, to the club and to ourselves to continue to battle for the Scudetto."

Luciano Spalletti's side will need Totti to recover his best form if they wish to challenge the Nerazzurri. Ever since sustaining a foot injury at the end of November, Totti has struggled to recover his form but is still Roma's top scorer with 10 goals.

He said: "I am still not at my best and I notice it on the pitch. I have not been able to train that much but I am working hard to get my fitness back."

Roma are well aware they cannot cannot afford any further slips with unbeaten Inter showing no signs of slowing down. The champions travel this weekend to Catania while Roma make the journey next weekend to Turin to meet third-placed Juve.

The Eternal City outfit will have to do without defender Juan and reserve goalkeeper Gianluca Curci this weekend through injury.

Rivals Reggina travel to the Stadio Olimpico looking for their first win on the road this term.

Defeats against AC Milan and Torino have seen the Amaranto drop into the relegation zone - one point behind Parma, who hold the last position of safety.

Renzo Ulivieri's outfit know they will face a battle to avoid a third straight defeat. Roma have not lost in the capital since going down 4-1 to Inter on September 29.

They have also been backed as the only side capable of catching Inter by an unlikely ally - Reggina defender Francesco Modesto.

He said: "Even if they seem a bit behind, Roma is the only side that is capable of competing with Inter for the title. I believe they can go all the way in all three of the competitions they are involved in."

Reggina will be without Portuguese defender Miguel Garcia and Brazilian striker Joelson on Saturday through injury.
