Roma captain Francesco Totti could return from injury in time to play against Internazionale in the Italian Super Coppa on August 24.
The Giallorosso playmaker underwent knee surgery in April and is working hard to recover his form for the first official game of the Italian season.
Totti's physio, Vito Scala, said: "The Super Coppa is an important aim for him.
"The results of the tests done yesterday were comforting but Francesco will only return to play when he is well and there are no risks.
"We are ahead of schedule by 20 days so he should be able to return to play four months and 10 days after undergoing surgery."
Despite missing 13 games last season, the 31-year-old finished as the team's top scorer with 14 goals.
Roma finished runners-up behind Inter but the Eternal City giants beat the Nerazzurri 2-1 to lift the Coppa Italia.
