Chelsea are hopeful of striking a deal with Real Madrid for Brazil forward Robinho to be their final signing of the summer, with the importance of his arrival highlighted by the failure to break down Tottenham in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Berbatov was not included in the Spurs matchday squad as he was deemed psychologically unfit to play after handing in a transfer request in pursuit of a move to Manchester United.

Spurs have already completed the signing of Roman Pavlyuchenko from Spartak Moscow but would want another striker, they would also welcome a defensive midfielder and have been linked with Sporting Lisbon's Miguel Veloso and Portsmouth's Lassana Diarra.

They were also close to signing Vedran Corluka from Manchester City earlier in the summer and are in the market for a defender.

"I think that what will happen is that once the window is closed we will have more options," said Spurs head coach Juande Ramos.

"With the arrival of Pavlyuchenko and anyone else who joins at the last minute we'll have more options on the field.

"Up to now Darren Bent has been working hard on his own and we haven't had options."

With the need for another forward, the president of Real Zaragoza, Agapito Iglesias, is reported to be in London to discuss the possible transfer of Diego Milito and Sergio Garcia from the Spanish club to Spurs.

Another striker who has been linked with a host of clubs is Sweden veteran Henrik Larsson.

Everton have been suggested as a possible destination as they desperately try to bolster their squad.

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is in the hunt for another midfielder to his squad, which lost the likes of Alexander Hleb, Mathieu Flamini and experienced Brazilian Gilberto this summer.
