The Croatia defender penned a two-year deal on Wednesday after passing a medical. The fee for the transfer has not been disclosed.

Simic, who can play anywhere along the backline, will be presented to the media on Thursday.

"It is above all a player of great experience that is joining our team," said Monaco president Jerome de Bontin.

"His arrival reinforces our defence... and the transfer also illustrates the excellent relationship there is between Monaco and AC Milan."

Monaco coach Ricardo may have been forced to dip into the transfer market after seeing two defenders, Adriano and Leandro Cufre, sustain injuries against Paris St Germain on Saturday.

The principality club also sold centre-back Sylvain Monsoreau to St Etienne a fortnight ago.

Simic, 32, has won 99 caps for Croatia and was a part of his country's Euro 2008 squad.

Before moving to Milan in 2002, he played for Internazionale and Dinamo Zagreb.
