GOLD Coast United's Ivory Coast wing-back Adama Traore has hinted he fancies wearing the green and gold of Australia and would one day love to play for the Socceroos.
Traore, a 20-year-old former Ivory Coast youth international who has been at Gold Coast for a year, burst onto the A-League scene last term before injuries curtailed his progress.
The lively defender is full of potential and while he's three years away from being eligible for an Australian passport, he's eyeing off a future with the Socceroos.
"One day, if all goes well I would love to play for Australia," Traore told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
"It's a goal of mine and I watched the Socceroos at the World Cup and thought they did really well.
"Being here in the A-League can only help my chances but time will tell."
Traore, who was capped at several youth levels for Ivory Coast, is eligible for their squad for the 2012 London Olympics but says he hasn't heard much recently from his home nation.
"Australia is so far from Africa and nobody has contacted me from home for a while now," he said.
Traore's coach at Gold Coast, Miron Bleiberg, is full of praise for the left-sided player.
"He has all the ingredients," said Bleiberg. "He's quick, has some tricks, has vision and is just a very hard player to contain.
"The beauty is he's still developing. He gets better with each game he plays.
"My belief is that Adama will ultimately go to Europe and will end up playing for Ivory Coast again.
"But right now he has a dream to play for the Socceroos."
