ADELAIDE United are hoping that joining forces with a Victorian club will continue to pay dividends in the Asian Champions League.
The Reds will play their third of four trial games against Melbourne Victory at Hindmarsh Stadium on Tuesday as a fine-tuning exercise before the team tackles Binh Duong FC in Vietnam next week.
United's assistant coach Phil Stubbins said it was important the two A-League rivals worked together for the benefit of the sport.
"At the end of the day we are all in the same boat here," Stubbins said.
"We are all Australians and we certainly want the best for the country, if we can help each other on that front and take the game to the Asian market and make ourselves proud of our efforts then why wouldn't we want to help each other?"
Stubbins said the games had been a vital part of Adelaide's preparation.
"They've been very beneficial for us, we had the opportunity through the friendly games to try a couple of new things we need to implement into the team," he said.
"We've taken on board what has worked for us and what hasn't worked and accordingly we've brought them into the game plan for the proper games.
"Certainly for the Korean game against Pohang that really came to fruition and we had a fantastic result based on a tremendous team effort."
Defender Sasa Ognenovski, who was recruited from the Queensland Roar, says the remaining practice matches will be helpful.
"They are (the other team's in Adelaide's ACL pool) are actually in competition over there now so obviously they are slowly working themselves into good form," he said.
"These games are a great idea; I don't think they did them last year so both clubs are helping each other by playing the games.
"We are not going to take any steps back playing against them but it's good. We are working for the same sort of thing - to promote soccer in Australia so if we can give them a hand to qualify and they can give us a hand to qualify then that's beneficial for both sides."
Victory will be using the hit-out to prepare for their April 9 clash against Gamba Osaka.
Adelaide and Melbourne are scheduled to play another trial game on April 15 in Melbourne.
