TWO players and a coach from Brazilian outfit Brasil de Pelotas have been killed after the bus carrying the team fell in to a ravine last night.
Former Botafogo forward Claudio Millar, ex-Fluminense defender Regis Gouveia and goalkeeper coach Giovani Guimaraes all died when the bus tumbled down the ravine.
Ten other members of the Porto Alegre-based side, who were returning from a friendly match against Santa Cruz in Vale do Sol, were taken to Pronto Socorro de Pelotas Hospital.
Players Edu and Xuxa and coach assistant Paulo Roberto underwent operations, but are now out of danger.
According to the Policia Rodoviaria Federal report, the bus fell 40 or 50 metres down a ravine on route BR-392, 80 kilometres from Brasil's stadium.
Uruguayan Millar had scored the opening goal in Brasil's 2-1 win over Santa Cruz. He scored more than 100 goals for the club.
The Porto Alegre Football Federation have suspended Brasil's opening game in the Gauchao against Sao Jose de Porto, which was due to taken place on January 22.
The club's board are expected to announce in the coming days if they will take part in this year's tournament at all.
Brasil play in Serie C of the Campeonato Brasilero.
