Troisi's last appearance for the Socceroos was just over a year ago – he managed the second half in a 4-0 away win over Bangladesh in the 2018 Russia World Cup Qualifiers.

Australia’s last win was against the UAE away (1-0) in early September before three consecutive draws against Saudi Arabia (2-2), Japan (1-1) and Thailand (2-2).

Socceroo star Robbie Kruse has lacked match fitness of late and is clear he will leave club side Bayer Leverkusen after a lack of game time.

He has received criticism as a result, particularly after the lacklustre draw to Thailand.

Versatile Troisi is able to play a similar role to Kruse in the wide left position, however the Asian Cup hero believes club form will help him receive a call-up from coach Ange Postecoglou.

“It (Socceroos call-up) always plays on your mind a bit, every Australian player wants to play for your national team, but for me first and foremost, your club is your bread and butter,” Troisi said.

“So I’m back now, it was a setback, but that’s how it goes. I’ll do what I have to do on the pitch with my club and I’m sure the rest will take care of itself.

“I’m back to play (at Victory) so I’m getting some game time, I want to perform and help the team out, if I’m doing that then I guess I’ll leave that in Ange’s hands, what’s in my hands is what I’m doing on the pitch.”

Victory coach Kevin Muscat said early in the season Troisi “had a smile” on his face around the club after a lack of game time in Saudi Arabia and China in the past two years.

Troisi was quick to dust himself off after breaking his collar-bone in the Round One 1-1 draw with Brisbane Roar following his resturn from surgery in the 6-1 win over Wellington Phoenix last month.

The 28-year-old managed 90 minutes in the past two games - a 2-1 loss to Sydney FC and the 3-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers.

With three wins from six games, Troisi was unbothered by the Sky Blues' blistering start to the season stating the team would rather finish strongly.

“We’ve definitely played some good football but it hasn’t been the best start and we want to continue and build on that,” he said.

“You never want to start the season on fire anyway, that’s the way I see it, you want to progress and build in towards the end of the season is when you want to be on song.

“There’s been quite a few injuries, some boys have gone international which chops and changes things but we definitely have a lot to build on and all the boys are keen and eager to progress and get better.

“You don’t want to win every single game and then come end of the season you start to lose, we want to take it step by step, gradually build up, get better and get stronger.

“We want to start winning games which we have, get the confidence up and play some attractive football as well.”

Victory had the weekend off after their clash away to Wellington Phoenix was postponed due to the earthquakes which occurred in New Zealand.

They now look to take on Newcastle Jets on Saturday after undertaking extra fitness training in the past week to make up for the missed game.
