James Troisi has applauded the signing of Japanese star Keisuke Honda by Melbourne Victory and called on the A-League to bring in more marquees.
Honda has arrived in Australia after decorated spells in Holland, Russia and Italy.
The 32-year-old has won 98 caps for his country and was one of Samurai Blues' best at the recent World Cup, his third and scoring in every one.
Honda is arguably the only proper marquee currently in the A-League, and Troisi wants to see other clubs follow suit to sign big-name foreign stars to boost the competition's profile.
"It's good, he’s a good quality player," the Socceroo told FourFourTwo. "Honda coming to the league is very big and I think the league needs more of that.
"The [Victory] staff are still looking to get a couple of more players. There’s been quite a number of boys who have left the club and we still need to get a few key players in a few key areas to fill those positions. The club always strives to be one of the best.
"We were successful last season, I’ve had success in previous seasons here, so for me personally it was good to win the grand final and we want to do that again and move forward."
Troisi has played against Honda on several occasions at internatonal level when the green and gold have clashed with Japan.
"Yep a number of times, we’ve played Japan quite often in the past few years," the attacking midfielder said.
"Honda’s a big name in Japan, obviously he was at Milan for a little bit. He’s just a quality footballer and it’s good to have him at the club."
