James Troisi is confident Victory fans will be “extremely happy” that he has re-signed on a two-year deal with the club.
With what seemed to be a rollercoaster ride, Troisi admitted there were options to continue his career in Israel, England and other A-League clubs.
He also explained Victory was his “first preference” after specific links to Brighton and Hove Albion and Melbourne City.
Troisi’s link to rivals City was quickly followed by backlash from Victory fans on social media, but the Socceroo simply felt that it was a positive people were talking about him.
“I can’t stop what certain people are going to say or individuals, for me that’s not important,” Troisi said on Thursday after re-signing with Victory.
“I’m sure those people after this press conference will be extremely happy and I’m extremely happy as well. So that’s fine.
“You don’t want to get into the nitty grittys, there were a lot of things said and written. At the end of the day that’s not in my hands, I’m here today, you can hear it from the horse’s and boss’ mouth.
“I’m very happy and honoured to play for the club and show my stuff in front of the fans again that have really supported me, so extremely happy to be here and I think it’s fantastic for all of us.”
Troisi also admitted it was all business when he and Victory did not reach an agreement towards the end of last season.
He said finals, Confederations Cup and a proceeding holiday with his fiancé had talks with clubs pending.
Troisi said he flew up to Israeli club Maccabi Haifa to “have a look” and that it “didn’t suit” his needs.
And he also said the picture of him holding up the Maccabi scarf was a simple misunderstanding and felt going into the 2018 World Cup was one of the contributing factors as to why it fell through.
“When you meet someone for the first time and they give you a scarf, it’s quite rude to say ‘no, I can’t do that’,” Troisi explained.
“To be honest I thought that photo was going to be sent to the owner and coach.

“Coach was a Standard Liege coach, he knew me, and I thought it would be like ‘OK Jimmy is here’ and obviously they posted it and it blew up.
“It was never, ‘I’m going there, I’m signing, doing medicals’, I went there with my fiancé to have a look at the place and see what it was about."
Troisi also said there were several clubs in the A-League that he was in negotiations but refused to specify whether it was City.
“Out of respect for all parties, I don’t want to give away too much information, it’s between me and whichever club that was,” he said.
“I want to keep things strictly professional, at the end of the day I’m not allowed to say too much and that’s the way we’ll go but there was a lot of interest everywhere. For me this was the best choice and the first preference as well.”
Coach Kevin Muscat also felt people had forgotten his contribution last season, scoring six goals in 26 A-League games which was labelled as a “fantastic season” by Troisi himself.
“I think what’s lost is how James performed last season, so I’m just as excited,” Muscat said.
“I know our members and fans will be immediately because once we start thinking about it, looking back and concentrating we’ll acknowledge it’s a nice piece to our puzzle for the upcoming season.”
