Fresh off a maiden career trophy, James Troisi is feeling the vibe of the Socceroos camp, saying Australia want to paint the world green and gold this June.
After winning the first trophy of his career with Melbourne Victory in the 2018 Grand Final, Troisi is motoring full throttle towards a second successive World Cup.
The 29-year-old is one of the more uncertain figures in the 26-man squad, with stiff competition for a place in the Socceroos midfield and three players still to face the chop.
But if the Melbourne Victory man is sweating his inclusion, he's not showing it, instead focusing on establishing a little bravado heading into the Russian showpiece.
“We definitely want to keep implanting our impression in the world,” Troisi told socceroos.com.au. “We did that in Brazil and we want to do it again in Russia.
“We've taken small steps and obviously we're playing against some of the best players in the world. But every time we play these games, we want to stamp our flag in the world.”
Before Australia can take on the world, they have to rectify some pressing issues uncovered in shaky friendly performances against Norway (4-1 loss) and Colombia (0-0 draw).
Their next tests will come in pre-Cup friendlies against Czech Republic and Hungary, before Australia's first group stage match kicks off against France on June 16.
“We've experienced and been through so much as a group,” Troisi said.
“We've got some experienced players now and everyone has been in that situation, whether it's a World Cup, Asian Cup or Confederations Cup.
“We've been at these high quality, pressure tournaments and situations and we definitely want to take that into what is going to be a fantastic World Cup.”
