But he has everything crossed that his Newcastle Jets sibling will get the Olympic nod when Graham Arnold announces his 18-man squad on Friday.

Former Qantas Joey David has taken a fair bit of stick from Adam since joining the Jets' bitter rivals but he's prepared to forget that for now.

He told au.fourfourtwo.com: "I've spoken to him since they played Chile up in Darwin and he felt he did well. Hopefully he goes to the Olympics because it would be an awesome experience for him. Playing against the world's best in that kind of environment can only help you."

As for David, he is still coming to terms with the fact that his A-League dream has come true.

He said: "I'm really happy and the boys at the Mariners have really accepted me. I have to thank Apia Leichhardt though. They gave me the opportunity to play, filled me with a lot of confidence and it's led to the chance with the Mariners.

"I had a long run of injuries before coming to Leichhardt. But I had a proper pre-season this time and playing regularly has helped me a lot.

"Ever since I signed though (for the Mariners) I think I've been putting too much pressure on myself and I don't think I've been playing as well as I can do though."

David's arrival at the Mariners sets up not one but two sibling rivalries in the A-League next season. David and Ahmad Elrich play for the Mariners while Adam D'Apuzzo and Tarek Elrich are Jets.

David said: "When I signed for the Mariners Adam quickly sent out a text to all our friends. It just read 'David is a Mariner. What a traitor!'

"With Adam there, before I got my chance with the Mariners, the support from family and friends was obviously with the Jets. Hopefully I'll be able to change that a little bit next season."
