Roar unravelled, jerseys and all, as they were bundled out of the tournament by Ceres despite playing in their home city.

Fox news commentator Mark Bosnich called the spectacle "truly embarrassing".

Massimo Maccarone scored the opener for Brisbane on 35 minutes. But a brace from Spanish attacker Bienvenido Maranon (43', 65') and a goal by Omid Nazari (75') set the groundwork for a shock result.

Just two weeks into their preseason the Filipino outfit was beginning to tire and Eric Bautheac pounced on 86 minutes setting up a nervy finish.

In the end it turned out an historic night for Filipino football and a dire result for the three time A-League champions.

The night became more humiliating for the home side when at least three players started losing the numbers off their jerseys.

Bosnich apologised to football fans.

"Congratulations to Ceres-Negros, we saw how much it meant to them to win this game," he told Fox Sports. "Well, we saw how much it meant to Brisbane with that farcical episode with the jerseys.

"If you don't want to be in the competition for whatever reason then just pull out rather than put us through...that was just absolutely embarrassing.

"I really am speechless - it's hard to say anything else other than say pull out of the competition. I've never seen anything like that is my footballing life. Not even as a junior playing U10s in Sydney."

Western Sydney Wanderers defender Michael Thwaite was equally shocked by what he had just witnessed: "I'm a proud Queenslander, I grew up in Cairns as a young boy. It's a really sad day for the region.

"I'm not sure what's going on there at the moment, but I guess it's a real sour point for our game at the moment because we see countries in south-east Asia that are starting to move past us."

Bautheac was forced to leave the pitch with his number hanging off and without another No.22 shirt available re-entered the fray with No. 77 taped to his back. 

That was the same number as teammate Ivan Franjic who was also having a wardrobe malfunction along with goalkeeper, Jamie Young.

But it was all smiles for the inaugural Philippines Football League title-winners, who became the first  Filipino club to record an ACL playoff win.

For Roar it was another abysmal ACL campaign, this their fifth, ending before it had begun. The A-League outfit has never advanced from the group stage of the continental tournament.
