The 24-year-old has signed a four-year contract after passing his medical at the club this morning.

A statement on clubatleticodemadrid.com read: "Arda Turan becomes Atletico Madrid's brand new signing after successfully passing a medical on Friday morning.

"He has signed on to play as a Rojiblanco for the next four seasons."

Turan leaves Galatasaray, who will receive 12m euros immediately and a further 1m euros in bonuses, after scoring 45 goals in 128 appearances.

The Turkish giants first opened negotiations with Atletico over Turan's transfer in March, and revealed a verbal agreement to sell the player on Tuesday.

He has represented his country 45 times, scoring 11 goals including two during the qualifying campaign for last summer's World Cup in South Africa, which Turkey ultimately failed to reach.
