Once Sky Blue fan favourites, keeper Vedran Janjetovic and midfielder Terry Antonis have crossed town to join city rivals Western Sydney Wanders as new signings.

But Dimitrijevic insists their arrival is just a sideshow for Sydney if the pair play in Saturday night's game.

Dimitrijevic knows the ex-Sydney stars well. He spent three and half seasons with Janjetovic and two years alongside Antonis but the Serbian import said facing his one-time allies in opposition will not be unusual.

“I played with both of them in many games,” he said. “It’s nothing special, this is a game of football and of course we stay very, very close and I am happy to see them again very soon.”

While downplaying the rivalry with his former teammates, he said he was buzzing for the derby itself, with Sydney hoping to maintain their strangehold on bragging rights.

“We are all excited,” he said. “It’s a special game for the fans and for us and we are all looking forward to this game.

"We all know it will be tough like every derby is. We are doing very well so far in this season and we are confident.”

Besides the motivation of beating their biggest rivals, Dimitrijevic says that extending Sydney’s unbeaten record and maintaining their league position is also a motivating factor.

“We are top of the table and undefeated, every team wants to be the first team that beats us,” he said. “So, for us every game is a tough game and of course this weekend against Western Sydney it will be very tough game.

"Also, it’s a derby and for all the people who support both teams it will be a special day. We are confident we will play to our strengths and we are we are looking forward to this game.”

Dimitrijevic has found himself in and out of Graham Arnold's starting XI, but the former Red Star Belgrade midfielder understands it’s more about the collective rather than the individual.

“This year we have a very good squad and everyone has to play his role,” he said. “We are all very good players. It’s really all about the team and all about winning games together.

“Sometime you are playing and sometime you are not playing. Sometimes you are playing all the games and sometimes the coach will give you only five minutes.

"But we are all giving 100% each time we are in the first XI or on the bench and it’s all about the team and all about the team spirit.

“Everyone is pushing in the same direction and it’s very good, we have a great team and a great atmosphere in the team.”
