The Hindmarsh men climbed to the top of the Hyundai A-League ladder for the first time after a 1-0 triumph.

A second half goal from Lucas Pantelis was the difference between the two sides with the visitors toppling Central Coast Mariners from their perch as a result - at least for a few hours.

Vidmar even had the luxury of starting Olyroos duo Nathan Burns and Kristian Sarkies on the bench although both entered the fray to assist their team to an important three points.

The Adelaide coach said: “It’s fantastic. I’m really proud of the boys tonight. They’ve really dug deep and got a very, very good result for us.

“Everyone was great for us. Robbie Cornthwaite was superb, Angelo Costanzo as well – everyone. It’s sometimes games like this that make it a turning point for the season for us.

"It was great that we were able to get two wins in a row.”

As with last week’s 4-1 mauling of Melbourne Victory, Vidmar was left to praise those who have come in to the side and fully justified their respective selections.

The coach said: “The guys that haven’t really played too much football this year, the likes of Jason Spagnuolo, Lucas, Pantelis and Dez Giraldi have now had a little bit of game time and I think that’s healthy for the club.

"Jason was our club champion last year. That was only his third start this year and it’s an encouraging sign for the club.”

As for their defeated hosts, Vidmar still believes Sydney FC has the players to bounce back.

He said: “It was a real danger game for us.

"I still think they’ve still got one of the better squads in the competition, just have a look at their starting eleven.

"There’s a lot of experience there. The ball’s probably not falling their way at the moment but they’re still a very good side.”
