Rendla joined Twente as a teenager but he suffered two serious knee injuries before last season going out on loan to Heracles Almelo.

But now coach Co Adriaanse has backed him to play his part as Twente look to close on leaders AZ Alkmaar who top the table but do not play until they visit Heracles on Sunday.

Adriaanse told the club website, www.fctwente.nl: "As a youth Andrei was already a very promising player.

"Unfortunately he then faced two serious knee injuries. After a long rehabilitation, he returned this season."

Twente chairman Joop Munsterman added: "Andrei has worked hard to come back. We have great respect for him.

"He was just 21 last month and has become a very talented player who has a career ahead of him."

Third-placed PSV Eindhoven, who visit strugglers De Graafschap, would appear to have problems off the field after legendary former player Johan Cruyff revealed the decision to appoint Louis van Gaal as the club's new general director was taken behind his back by the club's other directors.

Former coach Van Gaal is to return to the club in July 2012 as replacement for Rik van den Boog, who left the post earlier this year.

"I do not know what I have to say. To start, I knew nothing, nothing, really," Cruyff told Voetbal International.

"You think you are on the right road and then suddenly this happens.

"Legally, they all know how it works, but of course it stinks all around."

Ajax in fourth will look to close the gap on the leading three as they are at home to NAC Breda, NEC take on Roda JC and Heerenveen are at home to RKC Waalwijk.

Leaders AZ could have seen their lead cut by three points if Twente win on Saturday but will get the chance to pick up three points of their own when they visit bottom side Excelsior in the top game on Sunday.

In Sunday's other games ADO Den Haag play Utrecht, Vitesse Arnhem take on Feyenoord and Groningen play VVV Venlo.
