There is a chance that a win over Uzbekistan in next month's World Cup qualifier, combined with favourable results elsewhere, could see the Socceroos book their seat on the plane to South Africa.

Verbeek isn't going to allow himself to be distracted by such talk. For the coach, the only scenario that interests him is a win followed by another win.

He said: "If we get six points (from the remaining four group qualifiers) we are 100 per cent qualified.

"If we only have four points, there is a chance we have qualified.

"So if we get three points in our next game, we still need at least one point, because then you go on goal difference from there (should Australia lose two of their remaining games).

"So we go for three points; we want three points at home and then we will see what happens from there."

Uzbekistan are anchored at the bottom of Group A on one point, with Australia leading the way on 10.

That's led to speculation the Uzbeks may send a youth team to Australia if they lose at home to Qatar on March 28 and are no longer a chance at qualifying.

"I hope so," Verbeek said when the youth team rumour was put to him.

"But I would not think Uzbekistan will bring a youth team."
