The 32-year-old Australian, who played a full game in defence in Tuesday's 3-1 win over Saudi Arabia, almost moved to FC Seoul in late July and is understood to be keen to leave Seongnam.

Al Wahda assistant chief executive Khaled Awadh told The National they had made a move for the veteran, who scored against the Abu Dhabi club in their 2010 Club World Cup encounter.

"We have made him an offer and are also in talks with his present club," Awadh said.

"We are aware he is in demand but we are still open for negotiations. At the end, it is up to him to decide where he goes.

“Only time will tell where he is headed to, but the door is open for him at Al Wahda. If he decides to sign for us, it will be a great addition."

Ognenovski would join Australians Mark Bresciano and Lucas Neill in UAE's top flight, with Emirati clubs looking to make the most of their four-player foreign quota where one player must come from the Asian Football Confederation.

Al Wahda, who are currently coached by Austrian Josef Hickersberger, finished fifth in the UAE Pro-League last season while they lost the final of the President's Cup to Al Jazira.

The Abu Dhabi-based club currently have Olympique Lyon target Hamdan Al Kamali on their books and Awadh said he alongside Ognenovski would make a fine back pairing.

"They will not only establish a solid defensive partnership but be useful in attack, as they have both proved without any doubt that they can score from set pieces," he said.
