The champions of Spanish and Italian football will fight for the right to be called Europe's best this Sunday morning (4:45am AEST). Both Barcelona and Juventus have proven their dominance in their domestic competitions, accomplishing their league/cup doubles this season. The two footballing giants are worthy of their place in this weekend's final after overcoming the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid respectively.

The final will be played in Germany at Berlin's Olympiastadion, an iconic venue for Italian football. The last time superstars Gianluigi Buffon and Andrea Pirlo set foot on its hallowed turf, France legend Zinedine Zidane head-butted his way into the history books ... and Italy claimed its fourth World Cup.

Juventus will be hoping to win its third European crown and end a horrible run of results in Champions League finals (they've lost their last three: 1997, 1998 and 2003). Barcelona, meanwhile, will be hoping to join Liverpool and Bayern Munich on five European titles.

This will be Xavi's final game for Barcelona before he departs for Qatar. He will be hoping to end his 24-year career with the Catalonians with what would be his fourth European title. The match is also a major occasion for Juventus legend Buffon. The club's greatest-ever goalkeeper has won every other competition there is to win for the Old Lady (he's even won a World Cup with the Azzurri), with the UEFA Champions League the only title that still eludes him. The veteran is desperate to lift the Cup after losing at his first and only attempt in 2003 against Italian rivals AC Milan in one of those dreaded penalty shootouts.

Above is a gallery featuring ten key players who will be crucial in their clubs' campaign to lift the trophy on Sunday morning and complete the treble.
