Everton defender Phil Jagielka turned his focus to improving the team's domestic form as their European campaign came to an abrupt halt in Belgium.
The 2-1 defeat against Standard Liege meant Everton crashed out of the UEFA Cup 4-3 on aggregate, leaving manager David Moyes looking bitterly disappointed at the final whistle.
Everton's failure to reach the group stages of the competition means they must concentrate all their energy on stepping up their form in the Barclays Premier League after a disappointing start.
"We'll have to pick up our league form and hopefully have a decent run in the FA Cup instead," said Jagielka, who scored his team's away goal.
Speaking on five, Jagielka suggested Everton's failure to win the home leg against Standard, who pushed Liverpool all the way in qualifying for the Champions League, was a major factor in the tie.
"I think we let ourselves down in the first leg, maybe gave ourselves too much to do tonight," said Jagielka.
"We played well but their tactics worked. They played on the counter and obviously won the game."
Jagielka was not prepared to be drawn on whether the penalty which put Standard 2-1 up on the night should have been awarded.
Milan Jovanovic was caught by Leighton Baines and went down, with referee Peter Sippel pointing to the spot.
"I'm not too sure," said the former Sheffield United player. "We're just disappointed he got through too easily."
Everton face fellow slow starters Newcastle in the Premier League this weekend, and Jagielka said: "We're disappointed but we've got to kick on now for Sunday."
The defender also denied manager Moyes' contractual situation had any bearing on the result.
Moyes will reach the end of his contract at the end of the season and has not yet signed an extension.
"The gaffer will sort his own contract out in his own time," Jagielka said. "I'm sure he's going to stay."
