Gomis scored six goals in the last eight games of St Etienne's Ligue 1 campaign to force his way into the reckoning ahead of Trezeguet, who has been just as free-scoring for Juventus this season.

Other notable decisions by Domenech see Francois Clerc beat Arsenal's Sagna to a right-back spot and Jerome Rothen miss out on a place among the midfielders.

There was also no room for left-sided defender Clichy who was selected to the Professional Footballer's Association team of the year following his impressive season at Arsenal.

The enlarged group will be trimmed down to 23 players on May 28, the day after France's friendly against Ecuador in Grenoble, with the Euros starting on June 7.

Gomis has not even appeared for France's 'A' team, a side Trezeguet has frequently chosen to shun over recent months, but he now has a few precious days to impress Domenech.

"I have followed him for a while, he is an interesting player," Domenech said of the 22-year-old Gomis.

"He is one of my options in this enlarged group. It is an organisational choice.

"There are four or five central strikers. And at some time, you must make your choices and make a decision.

"What concerns me is the 30 I have chosen. I have evaluated their seasons and they seem to me the most competitive players to have for six weeks."

Gomis is unlikely to be part of the 23 who will go to the tournament in Austria and Switzerland, with Domenech expected to stick with just three out-and-out frontmen.

That could also mean Djibril Cisse, the other striker named on Sunday and - like Gomis - the scorer of 16 goals in Ligue 1 this campaign, would get the chop.

PSG wideman Rothen, whose end to the season has been hampered by a calf injury, is dumped with Domenech preferring the precocious Hatem Ben Arfa as the understudy to first-choice left-winger Florent Malouda.

Clerc gets the nod over fellow right-back Sagna, who has also seen injury ruin the end of his impressive first season in the Premier League, as the back-up to Willy Sagnol.

"It is neither a surprise nor a disappointment," said Sagna, who moved to Arsenal from Auxerre last summer.

"With my injury, I was prepared for this eventuality. I got injured at the wrong time."

Domenech said earlier in the week he would be naming 29 players in his provisional squad, but made a late decision to change it to 30.

He will be keeping his fingers crossed none of the many Les Bleus players taking part in club competition finals over the next week pick up injuries.

Manchester United and Chelsea meet in the Champions League final on Wednesday, while the Coupe de France final between Lyon and Paris St Germain and the Coppa Italia final between Internazionale and Roma are both on Saturday.

"I would have preferred to name a definitive list but it is not possible," Domenech said. "There are three finals this week.

"All the coaches of all the countries taking part have gone with enlarged squads.

"I know it will traumatise those who do not get into the final list, with people asking themselves, 'is it going to be me, is it going to be someone else?'

"It will be difficult, with the consequences it has. It is not easy but I have weighed up the pros and cons.

"And in choosing between the individual and the squad as a whole, I have thought about the team."

As well as the Ecuador friendly, France also have warm-up matches against Paraguay in Toulouse on May 31 and Colombia in Paris on June 3.

France's opening group game at the Euros is against Romania on June 9. They then play Holland and Italy, who beat Les Bleus on penalties in the 2006 World Cup final.
