Jol's side have secured only one victory in seven Barclays Premier League games following the 1-1 draw against Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.

The Dutch coach is anxious to turn things around in the wake of reports that Jose Mourinho was approached to take over at White Hart Lane after leaving Chelsea.

But Jol retorted: "Daniel Levy phoned me to say it was rubbish and hoped that I would be with him next year.

"He is always good to me, always backing me."

Tottenham were in the driving seat thanks to the opening goal from Robbie Keane after 33 minutes, only for Ivan Campo to equalise five minutes later.

Keane was paired up front with Dimitar Berbatov and there was no place in the travelling party for Jermain Defoe even though he scored twice in the 6-1 thrashing of Anorthosis Famagusta in the UEFA Cup.

According to Jol, Defoe needs to add more to his game than goals.

The Spurs boss said: "Jermain did score in the cup but so did Robbie and Darren Bent.

"I do not just look at who's scoring. I look at leadership as well.

"You need players who lead the pack and Keane is an important player for us. He also got another goal today."

Bolton have moved off the bottom of the table on goal difference from Derby.

Manager Sammy Lee praised the contribution of Campo, making his first appearance of the season.

Lee said: "Ivan gave the supporters a lift and gave me a lift as well when he scored that goal.

"He's a proud guy, a great professional and I have nothing but respect for him.

"We need all our players with the number of competitions we are in."

Lee was pleased with the way his side battled back to take a point.

He said: "Neither of the two teams would like to be in this position and I felt there was a lack of confidence in our side.

"That is understandable given our results but there was no lack of commitment and I was pleased about that side of our game.

"We are not firing on all cylinders but are showing gradual improvement and that is what I'm looking for."
