A Universitario fan was shot dead and seven others wounded while on their way to a match between Universitario and Sporting Cristal at the National Stadium.
The confrontation happened in Zamurilla Avenue near the San Martin de Porres district of Lima.
Witnesses interviewed by Lima's Radio Programas claimed the gunman was a supporter of Universitario's bitter rival Alianza Lima.
The fan was identified as Daniel Blanco Fernández, a 21-year-old student, who died while undergoing surgery.
Police Javier Uribe said a gunman on a motorcycle opened fire on the eight fans.
"Unfortunately, this happened and we regret it. I'm sure that perpetrators will be captured quickly," he said.
Cayetano Heredia hospital director Carlos Zamora confirmed that of the seven wounded, six were aged 18 or under with two 14-year-olds the youngest of the victims.
Other witnesses claimed Alianza Lima fans were also carrying guns, knifes and Molotov cocktails.
