Lia, who had scored four career goals prior to Friday’s match, added two more with goals either side of half-time at Adelaide Oval.

Both of the 32-year-old’s goals were stunning long-range strikes.

“I don’t get a lot of time usually for goals, so to get two in one game is a bit of a shock,” Lia told Fox Sports.

“But more importantly a point for our team.

“We spoke before the game and I said I don’t get many shots on goal.

“I think I had two shots and got two goals. It’s pretty rare.

“I don’t know if it’ll happen next week, so I’ll enjoy it.”

Lia left Wellington Phoenix in the off-season and spent time without a club, before joining Adelaide, having sent emails to a number of A-League clubs.

“It was tough initially,” he said. “There was a couple of months where I was at home, not really knowing what was next.

“Luckily Adelaide became available and I came here and trained for a week. Marco liked what he saw.

“It’s been tough. It was a tough pre-season but I managed to get through that.

“That was my main goal at 32, to set myself up for a big year. I knew the squad was so strong and I’d have to fight my way into the team.

“I’ve done that and hopefully I can stay there.”
