Reds president Mitsunori Fujiguchi informed the 51-year-old coach German on Wednesday that the club has no intention of retaining his services for next season.

Engels signed a two-year contract in March after taking over from compatriot Holger Osieck after just two games of the new season.

But Urawa failed to defend their Asian Champions League crown after losing in the quarter-finals to Gamba Osaka and bowed out of the season-ending Emperor's Cup in the fifth round earlier this month.

The Reds remain in the hunt for the J. League crown but sit four points behind leaders Kashima Antlers with two games remaining against Gamba on Saturday and Yokohama F. Marinos a week later.

"I've been told by Mr Fugiguchi that they won't have me for next season," said Engels.
