The Sporting Lisbon frontman struck twice in the first half and, despite a good deal of possession, South Korea rarely threatened Fabian Carini in the Uruguay goal.

With English Premiership stars Park Ji-sung, Lee Young-pyo and Seol Ki-hyeon on show, the hosts started brightly and could have been ahead before Uruguay even touched the ball as Cho Jae-jin shot wide in the first minute after good work from Lee Chun-soo.

The winger drew a good save from Carini after 14 minutes, shooting from the top-left corner of the penalty area.

And five minutes later, the South Americans went ahead.

Internazionale's Alvaro Recoba, back in the line-up after an 18-month absence, found space on the left side of the Korean area, advanced to the byline and produced a simple square ball for an unmarked Bueno to tap home at the far post.

The 26-year-old doubled his team's advantage eight minutes before the break. Recoba was again the provider, lifting the ball over the Korean defence for the advancing Bueno to blast an unstoppable shot past Kim Yong-dae.

With Park and Lee withdrawn at the start of the second half, South Korea spent much of the period camped in the Uruguay half but a combination of stout defending and misplaced passes meant few opportunities were created.

The best came in injury time when Seol lashed the ball against the crossbar from eight yards - a miss that summed up a disappointing night for the fans in Seoul World Cup Stadium.

The hosts will face Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and co-hosts Indonesia in Group D of Asia's showpiece in July.

Their next warm-up game is against the Netherlands on June 2.
